The Rugby Football Union (RFU) has submitted its planning application to build a new artificial sports pitch at Hornets Rugby Club grounds.

The RFU is footing the bill for the new facility in Hutton Moor Road in Weston-super-Mare, which includes a gated entrance, floodlights, equipment storage and hard standing areas. Hornets is one of six pilot clubs around the country to benefit from a new pitch, worth more than £1million each.

In its planning documents, the RFU said: “The proposal would give rise to a considerable benefit to the wider community through the provision of an enhanced playing facility and the opportunity for usage throughout the year.”
