Plans for an Aldi in Highbridge are moving forward.

Supermarket giant Aldi has said it is ‘delighted’ to be progressing plans for a new store in Highbridge and a survey has revealed 95 per cent of people it asked about the store were in support of it.

Aldi plans to build the store between Isleport Road and Bennett Road.

The proposal has been met with a host of support after the discount supermarket chain sent out more than 3,000 leaflets to gain feedback from people in Highbridge.

A spokesman for Aldi said: “We are delighted to be progressing plans for a new Aldi in Highbridge, to give local people easier access to the popular Aldi offer.

“Our consultation highlighted that 95 per cent of local people can’t wait to shop and save with Aldi and we hope local residents will now take the opportunity to let the council know their views.”

Sedgemoor District Council is inviting comments on the planning application until February 10 ahead of a final decision.

If the plan is approved, the store will include 101 car parking spaces and could create up to 40 new jobs.

The Aldi spokesman added: “The contemporary building would provide an attractive gateway to the wider estate.”
