Sedgemoor District Council has approved plans for 29 apartments and on-site parking to be built in Highbridge.
The council gave the go-ahead to New Shore Developments’ plans on Tuesday.
Plans include 29 flats, with 16 one-bedroom and 13 two-bedroom apartments to be built in the town’s Market Street.
Canal House, which was situated at the site, was demolished in 2012 and the area has remained derelict since.
Plans also include space for a courtyard with garden and a car park with spaces for 31 vehicles and 32 bicycles.
The original plan submitted to Sedgemoor by the company to build 33 flats in the area was opposed by Burnham and Highbridge Town Council in April.
The build is also subject to a Section 106 agreement, where money is gifted by the developer to be spent on the community.
