An investigation has begun into the cause of a fire which gutted a derelict Weston hotel last night (Saturday).
Eight crews tackled the blaze which engulfed the Lynton House Hotel in Madeira Road.
Avon Fire and Rescue service was called to the scene at 6.15pm and crews from Weston, Avonmouth, Nailsea, Clevedon, Yatton and Bedminster attended to fight the fire.
The operation was scaled down at midnight but crews remained on the scene throughout the night damping down hot spots.
Jim Wemyss, area manager for Avon Fire and Rescue Service, said: “Crews dealt with the fire well and contained it within the building, which had been derelict for some time.
“Crews have been on the scene throughout the night, damping down hotspots.
“Due to the unsafe nature of the inside of the building, we left it until daylight hours to carry out an investigation.
“An urban search and rescue team is assisting the fire investigation officer in conjunction with the police.
“Limited resources remain there while we carry out an investigation.”
