Police appeal after spate of fires

POLICE are appealing for information after four fires were reported in Weston in the early hours of Tuesday.

Just after midnight, there was a bin fire on the seafront. At about 12.20am another bin was set alight in Sandford Road. A mattress was set on fire in the same road at about 12.50am.

Shortly after 1.10am a small fire was discovered near a car in Sandford Road.

Then at 1.22am police received another call about damage to a car. Two men were arrested nearby, but were later released without charge.

Sergeant Colin Batchelor said: “If you have any information about those responsible for these fires or the smashed car window, please get in touch.

“Thankfully this time no-one was hurt, but this sort of arson which ties up the fire and rescue service could have serious consequences if it delays their response to a house fire or car crash.”

Anyone with information is asked to call 101.
