A WOMAN who was attacked in her own car had pulled over to use her mobile safely, according to police. The woman in her early 40s had stopped her Renault Scenic in a lay-by between Wedmore and Cheddar when a man opened the door of her car, made a lewd remark and then assaulted her. Cheddar Sergeant Pete Yensen said: "I believe the woman had pulled over to use her phone. She was travelling to work and had left something at home."The woman managed to trap her attacker's arm in the door and sprayed perfume in his eyes. He then stopped and made his escape, heading on foot towards Cheddar. The woman was shaken but uninjured. Police are now appealing for witnesses to the incident, which happened at 7.30am on December 13. The man was white and was wearing blue jeans and a dark jacket. He was also wearing a black balaclava but may have taken this off as he headed towards Cheddar. The vehicle has now been seized for forensic examination. Anyone with information should contact police on 0845 456 7000 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
