RESIDENTS fed up with speeding motorists are being invited to take the law into their own hands.Police in Cheddar are looking for volunteers to join the village Speedwatch scheme. PC Ian Bartlett said: "This is a chance for people to improve the quality of life in their own village."I know there are a lot of people out there who are very passionate about speeding, so now they have a chance to do something about it."Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) Matthew Webb and PC Bartlett would like 12 volunteers aged over 18 to come forward for training. They will be taught how to use hand-held speed guns.PC Bartlett said: "We need them to use the speed guns and record details of the cars involved. The police will then check the vehicle registration on the database and take it from there." Areas where speeding is a particular problem include Upper New Road, Wideatts Road and Draycott Road. These will all be among the areas targeted by the volunteers. Anyone interested should call Cheddar police station on 01934 638288 and ask for PC Bartlett.
