OPERATION Relentless is having a positive effect on car crime in North Somerset.Since being set up at the beginning of the year, the police team, set up to tackle car crime across the region, has made over 200 arrests.Six of the top 10 car crime offenders are currently in custody, with four serving custodial sentences of up to six months. The police team will now focus their efforts on the handlers of stolen property and prolific offenders.Chief superintendent John Long said: "This operation is about getting car criminals off the street and behind bars. "We have been carrying out raids at their houses, putting extra patrols into the areas they frequent and targeting the handlers we know they take their stolen goods to."At the start of the operation there were 500 victims of car crime every week across Avon and Somerset, which has now decreased to 377.
