THE police were called to St Georges after a parish council meeting descended into a heated argument.
The meeting of St Georges Parish Council on Tuesday evening was interrupted when a member of the public raised an objection to a councillor trying to discuss items not on the meeting’s agenda.
Another councillor proposed that he should be removed, before calling the police to the community centre in Willow Close at around 8.30pm, but a force spokesman confirmed officers were unable to attend the scene.
The council’s chairman was forced to close the meeting, with councillors and the man engaging in what a witness called a ‘heated debate’.
The witness, who asked not to be named, said: “He challenged certain members of the council, and one of them proposed that he be removed.
“The member of the public may have raised his voice, but he was well within his human rights to do so, and I believe it was wrong to try and remove him.”
