Police clamping down on summer crime

POLICE are clamping down on crime in Brean and Berrow ahead of the busy summer season.

Officers from Avon and Somerset Constabulary will be using hi-tech number-plate recognition software to stop and check vehicles to prevent drug crime, theft and road traffic offences.

The season-long operation started at the end of April when officers stopped twelve cars in the villages, and dealt with two drivers who weren’t wearing seatbelts and another for driving with no insurance.

Acting Sergeant Scott Minall said: “This is a safe area to live in and visit, but among the hundreds of summer visitors there are always a few who plan to do more than enjoy the sun and sea.

“Our message to them? While they may be on holiday, local police are not.”
