WESTON police station could be set to expand if it takes over a magistrate's building in central Weston.North Somerset Magistrates Court, in Walliscote Road, is relocating to a multi-million pound purpose built courthouse near the motorway junction in St Georges in a month.The police are looking into the possibility of acquiring and using the next-door building.Officers will need the new space when the force expands in the coming months. The station will see the number of police community support officers serving in the area double over the next six to eight months.A police spokesman said: "We are looking at the possibility of taking on the magistrates court building, but no final decision has been made yet."The new £15million complex will open for business on May 2.It will house five courts equipped with up-to-date technology such as video conferencing.It will also include a regional headquarters for the National Offenders' Management Service, which will organise the probation service.The funding for the new complex has been provided by a private finance initiative between Somerset County Council and facilities management and development company Amey. The council entered into a 27 year contract with Amey. At the end of this time, the facilities will become council owned.
