A HAMMER-WIELDING masked man terrified staff at a shop as he demanded cash from them before fleeing.

The raider entered the back entrance of the Co-Operative supermarket in The Square, Axbridge on May 25 with the hammer and demanded cash from frightened staff members.

An urgent appeal has been issued by Crimestoppers to find the robber, who is described as a white male, aged between 20-30 years old.

He is of medium build, approximately 5ft 10ins tall and has a strong Bristolian accent.

He was wearing a black hooded zip-up jacket with epaulettes, grey Nike trousers, dirty white training shoes and a black woollen balaclava.

His hammer had orange markings.
