Police structure overhaul for Weston

PUBLISHED: 12:00 02 April 2015

Changes to the local policing structure brought in this week mean people in Weston and nearby villages could see some new faces on the beat.

Individual villages will no longer have dedicated officers, instead there will be two policing teams covering the north and south of the patch.

Worle and North Weston, including Wick St Lawrence and Kewstoke, will be covered under one team with three PCs and five PCSOs. Weston Villages, which includes West Wick, Locking, Hutton, Uphill and Winscombe, will be covered by two police constables and two PCSOs.

The two teams will be headed up by Sergeant Chris Piers.

An Avon and Somerset Constabulary spokesman said: “We will continue to provide local neighbourhood resources dedicated to your community. The new structure will bring patrol and neighbourhood policing together, delivering more resources when the public most need us.

“We have conducted a comprehensive review of demand, and have allocated the correct amount of officers to each community to deliver the best service to the public.”
