Police want public help in deciding future spending

ACCOUNTANTS at Avon and Somerset Police Authority have been praised for their handling of public money by the Audit Commission.

Scrutiny by the financial experts has shown the district’s police have successfully managed ‘to secure economy, efficiency and effectiveness in its use of resources’.

Finance committee member Arthur Terry said: “The Police Authority is responsible for ensuring the effective spending of the £280million police budget and making sure the constabulary is adequately resourced.

“This demonstrates the valuable and conscientious work that the authority and constabulary are undertaking to ensure that local people get real value for money in policing.”
