A WOMAN whose ponies were hit by cars has called for more to be done to protect animals in the area.

Tina Cash, of Monkton Avenue on the Oldmixon estate, Weston, was devastated to learn one of her ponies was killed when it was hit by a car on Saturday morning. The pony, Tom, suffered a broken neck and leg.

Another, Urch, was injured in a collision with a different car.

Three ponies in total escaped from a field in Bleadon where they were kept, and Ms Cash fears they may have been let out and driven towards the main road where the accident occurred at around 7.15am.

She said it was the latest in a series of incidents of horse and pony-related problems in the area.

She said: “Something needs to be done. That poor animal didn’t deserve to die just because someone opened the gate and let it out.”
