A PUBLIC meeting to update residents about Burnham Pool was held last night (Thurs).

Members and officers from Sedgemoor District Council held the first of many get togethers to discuss the future of the facility in Berrow Road.

The closure of the pool was announced last year when the authority revealed a funding gap of £1.8million.

The council is bound by a number of rules and regulations that do not apply to businesses or commercial ventures. This is why the authority is seeking external legal advice.

Protestors against the closure now have until May 31 to find someone to purchase the swimming pool before it closes its doors for good, but a buyer has not yet been found.

Earlier this month the council announced popular swimming events such as the Burnham Aquathon and the town's triathlon will still go ahead this summer.
