A LACK of parenting skills is contributing to youth crime in parts of Weston - according to a senior North Somerset councillor.Cllr John Crockford-Hawley says the changing shape of family units and an increasing number of single parent families are part of the reason youngsters misbehave. He raised his concerns at North Somerset Council's executive meeting on Tuesday (Feb 13) in relation to central ward, which had been described as a 'deprived' area. He said: "In part of central ward there are problems as there are more single parent families. They may not be as stable as ones with two parents."Statistics show there is more likely to be problems from children from one parent families than two parent families."But I'm not casting aspersions over a whole group."When you look at some children you see in their faces something sad and one reason is poor quality parenting skills. No longer do families have grandma round the corner and ready to help."I am convinced the way society is changing is the cause of some problems."If you go round town at certain times of night you will see children who should be in bed. "People seem to bring some children up to believe the right way to behave is to go to nightclubs and get 'sozzled.
