MORE than 130 people went missing in North Somerset in 2007 - with just one case left unsolved.

The people reported to Avon and Somerset Constabulary as missing could have been absent for just a few days, but in some cases a much longer period of time.

Out of the 139 people reported missing, Gerald Pope, of the Bournville estate, Weston, is the only one whose case has not been solved.

The 45-year-old schizophrenia sufferer was last seen in Weston in September.

His mum, Jean Pope, made an emotional appeal for his return before Christmas saying she was very concerned about her son's welfare as she did not know whether he had his medication with him.

Gerald has gone missing before but never for more than a few days.

DS Richard Baber is leading the police appeal and he has urged cyclists, horse riders and dog walkers to look out for Gerald, who has been known to live rough in the past.

Gerald is of mixed heritage, about 5ft 8ins tall, with short black hair and a gaunt appearance. Anyone with information is asked to contact the police on 0845 456 7000.
