A LEADING councillor has announced that he will step down from all aspects of public life because he is disillusioned with local politics.Town councillor David Evans has said he will step down from some of his duties with immediate effect.Cllr Evans said: "There are a number of reasons why I have made this decision. My wife has had health problems and that is one reason."But following on from that I went to a meeting about sea defences at a town council meeting in December when they voted in favour of an alternative sea defence like a marina." A large number of councillors voted in favour of looking at it and then at a North Somerset Council meeting a large number voted against it."This is not how I run my life. I am as straight as a die and I do not want to run my life like that."At the age of 70 my wife and I are going to enjoy ourselves. We are off to India in March."David Evans will step down as the chairman of Preanes Green Residents' Association from immediate effect and will not run for either town or district council at the May elections.
