A popular cut-through in Weston-super-Mare will be closed for 12 weeks while essential work to replace 500 metres of gas pipes takes place.
Manor Road, which links Milton Road with Bristol Road Lower, will be closed from today (Tuesday) for 12 weeks, while Wales and West Utilities carries out the work.
The road will be closed to traffic and pedestrians and a diversion route will be clearly signposted.
Wales and West Utilities programme controller for Somerset said: “We will replace more than 500 meters of old metal gas pipes with new plastic ones. This work is essential to make sure that homes and businesses in the area continue to receive a safe and reliable supply of gas now and in the future.
“So we can do this work safely and as quickly as possible, and so road users, pedestrians and our colleagues are kept safe while we work, we will close Manor Road, starting at the junction with Bristol Road Lower. A diversion route will be clearly signposted. Our work – and the road closure – will move down Manor Road towards the junction with Milton Road.
“We know this will be disruptive, but it really is essential to make sure that homes and businesses in the area continue to receive a safe and reliable supply of gas now and in the future.”
