A POPULAR footpath that was cordoned off after a blaze at Weston's Royal Pier Hotel will soon be reopened.

The walkway, at the rear of the former hotel, was deemed too dangerous to use after a fire at the Birnbeck Road site in June 2009 and was fenced off by North Somerset Council.

Since then, and after another huge fire at the derelict site in September this year, the charred ruins have been completely demolished.

A council spokesman said the current fences should be removed next week and barriers will only remain in areas that are deemed unsafe.

This will come as welcome news to the many joggers, dog walkers and residents that had used the path for years.
