THIS year’s Beach Race event will be more family-orientated and could even feature a celebrity or two, its organiser has said.

The 2012 event will mark the 30th anniversary of the beach race in Weston, and RHL Activities director Gareth Hockey says his firm is working hard to add some new attractions.

The day event will start on October 12 with a variety of entertainment and continue over the following two days with six races.

More than 350 riders have already signed up to take part in this year’s event.

Mr Hockey said: “We’re altering the site layout, as we are looking to be even more family-orientated area.

“In the area there will be children’s rides, arts and crafts and lots more. We’ve always had lots of families coming who are linked to the motorcycling world, but we want to open it up even more for all families.”

He said that Friday’s timetable will feature a range of different demonstrations.

Among those he hopes will perform at the event are a team from the Honda Europe training academy, a team of injured Army personnel who are hoping to race in the 2013 Dakar Rally, a minibike riding team and even some celebrities from the soap world who will join in with the demonstrations.

Mr Hockey added that the event was still welcoming local schools which wanted to visit the site as part of trips.
