BANWELL Parish Council is looking to put the pressure on North Somerset Council over the 'intolerable' state of traffic in the village.

The parish authority has written to North Somerset requesting again lorries be banned from roads through the village .

A potential ban - known as depriming - of the A371 and A368 between Weston and Churchill was discussed in September, but despite the support of local MP John Penrose there has been no movement on imposing weight restrictions.

In a letter addressed to North Somerset’s deputy leader and executive member for highways, Elfan Ap Rees, the council said: “In the continuing absence of a bypass for the foreseeable future, the parish council considers that a weight restriction is urgently needed to prevent large vehicles using the roads.

“This would go some way to ameliorating the intolerable situation for the residents of Banwell.”
