Prizes for blooming lovely gardens

A HOST of gorgeous gardens scooped gongs at Weston Horticultural Society’s competition.

More than £350 of prize vouchers were handed to winning gardeners at the event, run in conjunction with Weston In Bloom and sponsored by Cheddar Garden Centre.

Awards for patio gardens, hanging baskets, small, medium and large gardens as well as front gardens were given out.

Winners will be presented with their prizes by town mayor David Hitchins at Weston Flower Show at St Pauls Church Hall in Walliscote Road on August 11 at 4pm.

The prize winners were as follows:

Front Garden: 1st Ron and Joan Smith, 2nd John Mellish, 3rd Mrs O’Farrell.

Large Garden: 1st Bill Marlow, 2nd Gillian Isaac, 3rd Alan Holloway.

Medium Garden: 1st Wendy Lowe, 2nd Kathy Scott, 3rd Rae Fitzgerald.

Small Garden: 1st Carol Simms, 2nd John Mellish, 3rd Ernie Hooper.

Patio: 1st Bill Marlow, 2nd Wendy Lowe, 3rd Roderick Thomas.

Hanging Basket: 1st Alan Little, 2nd John Mellish, 3rd Mr & Mrs Harris.
