ABOUT 50 villagers protested on Monday night against new homes proposed in their village.

The demonstration ahead of Yatton Parish Council’s meeting, saw Claverham residents raise concerns over 100 homes planned off Chestnut Drive.

Planning permission has not yet been requested, but parish council clerk Crispin Taylor said an application is likely to be put forward soon.

The protesters’ ‘save our fields’ slogan echoes a number of similar campaign groups that have been recently started up in Yatton and Congresbury.

Several villagers called on the parish council to produce an ‘essential’ neighbourhood plan for Claverham and Yatton, in a bid to fend off interest from potential developers.

The parish council agreed to discuss the idea at its planning meeting on Monday. It will be held at Hangstones Pavilion, however as the Mercury went to press, no start time had been agreed.
