A CONSULTANT psychiatrist has used his expertise to create a new novel.
Dr Ben Sessa, who works at drug treatment charity Addaction in Weston-super-Mare, has written To Fathom Hell Or Soar Angelic.
The book is set at a farm in Somerset, where a conservative NHS doctor meets a maverick Californian psychiatrist.
Together, they challenge the failure of mainstream psychiatric practice.
Dr Sessa, who is part of a group of research scientists promoting the use of psychedelic drugs in medicine, said: “It’s an extension of my research.
“There are plenty of medical text books written on this subject but little in the way of literary fiction. I hope as a novel it will make the subject more accessible to a wider audience.
“Medical psychedelic drug research is still only at an experimental stage. These treatments are not yet available to patients today.
“But hopefully this book will educate the public about this fascinating research.”
The book is on sale now, and is available through Amazon.
