A TOTAL of 18 objections have been lodged against a pub's plans to extend its opening hours. The Pig and Truffle in Oxford Street, Weston, wants to open to the public from 9am seven days a week and close at 12.30am from Sunday to Wednesday, 2.30am on Thursdays and 4.30am on Fridays and Saturdays.Among the letters of objection which have been received, is one from Pirous Sardari who owns five flats in Oxford Street.Mr Sardari says all the people occupying his properties have signed a petition against the proposals. He said: "The noise levels at night are far too much in this area. We are unable to sleep with the windows open at night."I appreciate you taking this objection seriously as all my tenants have agreed and signed this petition."If the plans get the go-ahead the pub would be open for an additional two and a half hours Monday to Wednesday, another four hours on Thursday, an extra four hours on Fridays and Saturdays and an extra four and a half hours on a Sunday. At the moment the pub opens at 11am and shuts at 12.30am the following day, except on Fridays when it opens from 12noon to 11pm.Pub landlord, James Towells, said: "I just want to say that we do not want to cause problems for our neighbours."I hope we can find a happy medium as we understand their concerns."The Pig and Truffle also wants to start selling alcohol at 9am and stop half an hour before closing time. There would be no entry or re-entry to the premises by customers after 12midnight.The Pig and Truffle's application will be considered at a meeting of North Somerset Council's licensing sub-committee on Monday.
