Cheddar’s annual duck races were held this week and raised more than £1,600 for charity.

Tickets for the races, which saw hundreds of ducks released into the river at the bottom of Cheddar Gorge on Bank Holiday Monday, sold out early on in the afternoon, helping to raise the impressive four-figure total for Children’s Hospice South West.

Janet Clark, of Cheddar Vale Lions, which organised the duck race, told the Mercury: “It was a really good day, which was helped by the good weather, and we had a grand prize draw for a weekend in the Cheddar Valley, thanks to our sponsors, which added to the total.”
