POLICE crackdowns in drinking dens across Weston has led to an increase in youths visiting Locking to drink illegally, according to a prominent resident.Noel Walter, who has lived in the village for 34 years, has complained to police about vandalism to changing rooms on the playing fields opposite the Locking Parklands development by teenagers using the spot as a 'meet'.The field and changing rooms, owned by Locking Parish Council, are used by the village's cricket and football teams. Mr Walter, also the parish council's chairman, says the damage is a result of extra policing in places such as Ashcombe Park and Grove Park, areas which have historically attracted under-age drinkers.Only last week he spotted boozed-up teenagers He said: "I get the feeling they are sending out scouting trips for this sort of thing. I've seen youngsters in their mid-teens carrying backpacks bulging with cans, which could be soft drinks, but I doubt it."They will be on their mobile phones calling other people to come down if the coast is clear. "I think the police are not solving the problem just moving it around."It is costing the parishioners money which will have to come out of the precept. "This has been going on for about a year now."Previously, parish council meetings have been punctuated by noise from so-called 'mini-motorbikes'.Also, cans and bottles have been left in the courtyard of Locking Primary School after determined yobs scaled the school's roof to gain access to an area hidden from public view, where youngsters can drink undisturbed.
