Question over severed foot unclaimed for a decade...

A SEVERED foot found
on a riverbank in West Huntspill is still puzzling police 10 years after its discovery.

The unidentified foot washed up in September 2004 inside a sock
and trainer, and despite assessment from Home Office pathologists into potentially related deaths, its past is still a mystery - as is the fate of its once owner, from whom it became detached in ‘normal circumstances’.

West Somerset coroner Michael Rose appealed for information this week as the foot will be disposed of in October if no new details are received.

He said: “It was found the foot had become detached from its body through normal circumstances, and is believed to have belonged to a caucasian male.

“No persons have come forward or deaths occurred which could be connected to it. There is a suspicion it could have washed in from the sea.”

Anyone with information can contact the West Somerset coroner’s office on 01823 445380.
