Villagers handy with needles and sewing machines showed off their best creations at a charity exhibition at the weekend.

Congresbury Quilters hosted a showcase on Saturday at the Old School Rooms, displaying a wide range of colourful creations.

The event, which is held every two years, was in aid of Children’s Hospice South West, and club collected £300 for the charity.

The charity runs a hospice in North Somerset, in Wraxall, near Nailsea.

Founder Pat Baker said: “It was amazing.

“Our members put in lots of energy, enthusiasm, hard work and served some lovely cakes too.”

The group, which was formed three years ago, has a dozen members, but Ms Baker hopes the success of the exhibition prompts more people to join the group and hone their knitting skills.

She added: “New members are always welcome to join the group.

“They can pop in any Tuesday afternoon from 1.30-4pm at the Old School Rooms, in Station Road.”
