HOMEMADE rafts and a flotilla of historic lifeboats all took to the water to raise money for the RNLI.

The annual raft race took place on Weston’s Marine Lake on Saturday.

The money will go towards the life-saving charity’s £300,000 appeal for a new lifeboat station in the town, after the crumbling state of Birnbeck Pier forced the charity out of its traditional home.

An open day was held on Sunday, split between the RNLI’s temporary lifeboat station beside Marine Lake and the shop at Anchor Head.

There were demonstrations throughout the day by the RNLI and the Coastguard.

Five historic lifeboats, the oldest of which was built in 1933, all passed by Anchor Head at noon.
