A MAN whose body was found on a railway line on the outskirts of Weston yesterday morning was not killed by a train, British Transport Police (BTP) have confirmed.

The body of the man, who is believed to be aged 54, was discovered on the line at Devils Bridge between Weston and Bleadon at around 6.10am yesterday morning.

Today, a spokesman for the BTP said that although the man had not been formally identified, the force could confirm he had not been hit by a train on the line.

Brian Price said: “After examining the body, we can confirm that the man was not hit by a train.

“We have not yet formally identified him, and a forensic examination team may be used in order to help us do so.”

Yesterday’s discovery caused chaos on the line between Weston and Taunton, with several services cancelled.

Anyone with information is being asked to contact the BTP on 0800 40 50 40, quoting incident number 65 of June 15.
