JANET Avery, a leader at the 1st Sandford Rainbows group, is on an expedition to the wilds of eastern Siberia to save an extinction-threatened bird.

With members of the Slimbridge Wildfowl and Wetland Centre she is hoping to collect spoonbilled sandpiper eggs

It is then hoped that they can raise chicks at the centre in South Gloucestershire.

Her group in Sandford has made little sandpiper chick toys and raised £30 towards raising the next brood of chicks.
