Readers have had their say on plans to build more homes near Weston.

Housing developer Bellway hopes to build 149 homes in Wolvershill Road between Banwell and West Wick.

The firm has secured outline planning permission for a masterplan of 1,150 homes, and is now hoping to agree the finer details for the first phase of the development.

Bellway plans to create apartments, plus two, three and four-bedroom homes - 19 of which would be affordable housing.

The wider project will include the creation of a care home, a primary school and sports facilities.

Sales manager Rachel Way said the company has 'worked hard to create a development which will meet local people's needs' and aim to have the first homes completed by the end of the year.

She said: "We are looking forward to being involved in the creation of this exciting new neighbourhood near Weston."

Many readers took to social media to have their say.

Mel James said: "Are they kidding? We don't have the infrastructure, and that stretch of road is a nightmare for traffic."

Lizzie Davis Neath added: "What planet are these people on?

"Giving out permission for more housing when the roads in and out of Weston are not fit to take even more traffic and also this will put an even bigger strain on Weston Hospital too."

Mike Dennett commented: "We do not have the infrastructure to allow any more housing in Weston.

"We do not now have a fully open hospital, no room in our schools, no police presence, GP surgeries full along with dentists,

"The town is not sufficient to cope with increasing numbers."

Dan Petchey said: "How about sorting the roads out first.

"Most are gridlocked most mornings, and weekends.

"There's too many cars not even tarmac."

Martyn Williams commented: "The council will let it happen regardless of what anyone says.

"Affordable housing is only affordable to 'buy to rent' Tory voters anyway.

"Just watch how many for sale signs come down and to let boards go straight up."
