THE circumstances behind the death of a 15-year-old girl from Weston remain unexplained, an inquest heard today (Friday).

Josie Leigh Herniman, a Year 11 student at Broadoak Mathematics and Computing College, was found by friends in a wooded area near Oldmixon on September 29 last year just before 9.30pm.

A vigil was held on Weston beach in the days after her death and attended by more than 100 friends and family, while a Facebook group set up in her memory was joined by more than 5,000 people.

Coroner Maria Voisin recorded a narrative conclusion at North Somerset Coroners’ Court, saying: “Josie was found hanging in the woods. She died from the injuries she sustained and her intention is unknown.”
