WESTON'S main library will see its opening hours reduced by three hours a week from next month.

The library – currently based in the Boulevard, but set to move to a new base at the TownHall in Walliscote Grove Road – will see its hours change from July 4. It will open earlier in the mornings, but evening times will be cut, with a net loss of three hours a week.

New opening times will be from 9.30am-7.30pm on Monday and Thursday, 9.30am-5.30pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, and 9.30am-4pm on Saturday.

North Somerset Council central ward member Mike Bell said: “Some of the changes will be welcomed by library users, particularly the earlier opening time of 9.30am.

“However, with plans to close the library and move the service into the revamped town hall pressing ahead, many will be concerned about any reduction in overall opening hours.

“Nationwide library services have faced the squeeze and we must ensure that our town centre library remains a vibrant, accessible and well resourced space.”
