A MUSIC festival to rival Glastonbury is being held in Langford.Eight concerts ranging from reggae to gospel will take place at St Mary's Church.A marquee will be put up in the grounds and classical concerts will be played inside the church between June 24 and July 2.The Langford Music Festival is being held as part of the St Mary's Powerhouse Project to raise money for an extension to the church.A jazz and Latin band will kick off the event followed by a performance from Churchill Community School's choir.Musicians and dancers from Africa will play Calypso, Soca and Reggae at a concert during the festival.Bath Spa String Quartet will perform classical pieces from Bach, Schubert and Shostakovitch.Local acts Breakaway Blues Band and Big Band Wolf will be supported by the village's 17-piece big band. Tickets to the concert include a pig roast and barbecue. Experienced festival performers Andy Hague Quintet will play their own versions of classical jazz.Traditional Christian hymns and music will be played at a special outdoor service to celebrate the last day of the festival.Organiser Richard Fairs said: "I thought it would be fantastic for the church and something to get the whole community involved."The types of music being played are so broad that we're hoping there's something for everyone."We wanted to have concerts that featured types of music other than Christian songs, but there will be a culmination of all the music in a service at the end of the festival."We've had such a lot of interest from other bands that we're already planning to hold a festival next year."
