Scores of women take part in the 5km walk every year in memory of a loved one or to raise much-needed funds for the hospice.

Last year 342 women entered, raising more than £26,500 for the charity.

The event is a great way for women come together in remembrance of loved ones and to support each other.

Event organiser Kelsey Dehaney said: “In past years, there has been a wonderful atmosphere and I am sure that this year will be no different.

“Being a women’s event, there is a real bond between all the participants and it is fantastic to see women coming together and supporting a great local charity which serves, and depends on the support from, the community.”

The event is taking place on September 7 and fundraisers will start and finish at the Tropicana, in Marine Parade.

Registration costs £15 per adult and £10 per child and participants will receive a Midnight Beach Walk
T-shirt, a candle bag and special gift after completing the course.

Walkers can register online before midnight on September 2.

Kelsey added: “I’d encourage every woman who is thinking about taking part in the event to register as soon as they can.

“It is traditionally a great event for all parties and I am sure this year will be no different.

“Taking part in the Midnight Beach Walk won’t just mean you light up the night, you’ll become a light in the dark for the hundreds of people we help support on a daily basis.

“Whether you plan to take part in memory of a loved one, are keen to support a respected charity in your community, or you would simply like to enjoy a nice stroll along the beach with friend, you’ll have a brilliant time.”

The hospice, which is based in Uphill, provides palliative care and spiritual and emotional support to people with life-limiting conditions and their families.

The charity only receives 20 per cent of its funding from the NHS, meaning more than £4.2million each year must be raised independently.

For more information, or to sign up to the walk, visit or call the hospice on 01934 423960.
