A TEACHER is set to cycle the length of the country for maternity care on the anniversary of the loss of his stillborn daughter.

The Kings of Wessex Academy teacher John Batchelor will set off on August 6 from Land’s End, taking 12 days to reach John O’Groats with former teacher Mike Preece and his nephew Dan.

They will be raising money for the Roan and Fern Wards of the maternity unit of Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton, whose staff helped John and his wife Zoe when they lost their stillborn daughter Isabelle in July 2010.

They also lent their support when the couple went on to have Lottie last September.

John said: “Zoe and I want to remember Isabelle and give something back to the maternity unit who were there for us for both our sad loss and our joyous moment and I am grateful to Mike and Dan for joining forces with me.”
