A woman was rescued by the Coastguard after falling part-way down a cliff in Weston-super-Mare.

The Coastguard was contacted at 1am this morning (Friday) about a woman who had fallen down the cliff on the northern side of Sand Point.

She had suspected neck injuries and was in a precarious position.

Rope rescue teams from Weston and Clevedon found the woman, and had help from the search and rescue helicopter and police.

RNLI lifeboats from Weston and Barry Dock also waited offshore in case they were needed.

The woman was rescued by the rope rescue technicians and transferred to hospital.

Jon Kendray, the senior coastal operations officer for the Coastguard, said: “I would like to thank all of the emergency services involved for their excellent team work.”
