The Burnham Area Rescue Boat (BARB) search and rescue team threw open its doors and invited visitors to take a look at its two hovercrafts and inshore vessel.

But while the day was fun for visitors, it included some hard toil for crewmembers, who completed a fundraising hovercraft pull through the town centre. The stunt raised £258.BARB chairman Mark Newman said: “Our thanks go to all those people who supported us through the day.

“The event was held to raise seaside safety awareness and also give visitors a chance to see our hovercrafts up close and meet our dedicated volunteer crewmembers.”

BARB is a registered charity and is run entirely by volunteers. It has helped and rescued hundreds of people since it was formed more than 23 years ago.
