Resort among UK's 'fastest-growing'

A SEDGEMOOR town has been named as one of the fastest-growing seaside resorts in the country as part of a new survey.
Burnham was ranked among the highest in the UK by Holidaylettings.co.uk, part of the TripAdvisor brand, based on online reviews and web traffic throughout the year.
It is ranked among popular UK resorts, like Southend and Penzance, plus less-familiar names like Portrush in Northern Ireland – an achievement described by the town’s business and tourism manager as ‘fabulous news’.
The Project Coach scheme set up in 2012 to encourage more tourists to visit the town has been a key factor. It has been calculated to have generated more than £230,000 for Burnham since its inception, while the town has also been a finalist at the national Coach Tourism Awards in each of the past three years, and earned coach friendly status from the Confederation of Passenger Transport in 2014.
Business and tourism manager Ian Jeffries told the Mercury: “It shows the work put in by all the accommodation providers and groups in the town can bring rewards. It’s fabulous news for us.
“It’s great having all these accolades but we still need to get people coming along to visit too, and let’s hope there’s more to come next year.
“We are looking to advance Project Coach in that respect going forward, and will also be working with the development Hinkley Point to attract the families of people who will be working there to the town.”
