A retired Congresbury farmer and former parish councillor has died.

Peter Edwards died at home in Stonewell Lane, aged 81.

Born at Rookery Farm, he was the eldest son of farmer Stanley Edwards and Dolly.

Peter attended the former Cadbury House School, near Yatton, and the old Lewisham School in Weston before leaving at 16 to work with his father on the family dairy farm.

He and his younger brother Colin, took over Rookery Farm when their father retired in the 1970s.

Peter, a parish councillor for some years, was a member of the village memorial hall snooker club for many years and a former member of the Masonic Lodge of Agriculture in Yatton.

He also enjoyed attending classical concerts at the Colston Hall and was a lifelong Bristol City FC supporter and season ticket holder.

His funeral service will be at St Andrew’s Church on November 12 at 1.30pm, followed by a private service at Weston Crematorium.
