Two medical centres are considering a merger in the face of increasing demand.

Riverbank Medical Centre, in Worle, could team up with Mendip Vale Medical Practice, which treats patients in Churchill, Congresbury, Langford, Wrington and Yatton.

A Riverbank spokesman said: “The demands and pressures on GP practices are continuing to increase, and we are reviewing how we best adapt to meet the needs of our patients.

“Working together as a larger group will put us in a more sustainable position to deliver safe and effective care.

“The surgeries have a shared belief in making a continued positive difference for patients, and feel it is the right time to combine efforts and build upon the successes to date.

“There is a common goal in wanting to provide the best possible service for our patients and ensuring their healthcare needs are met.”

Patients would be able to visit doctors at either practice, if a merger goes ahead, as well as receive more specialist treatments across several sites.

The merger will have to go through a consultation phase before a decision is made, but Riverbank says it will remain business as usual for patients during that time.
