The RNLI and coastguard were called out to reports of two missing people late last night.

The call came in around 11pm after a beach warden spotted two figures in dark clothing going into the sea near the Tropicana yesterday evening (Saturday).

The RNLI launched their D-class and Atlantic lifeboats. The coastguard helicopter assisted in the search.

RNLI press officer Glyn Hayes told the Mercury: “The weather conditions were atrocious. By the time we had completed the search, the tide had gone out.

“We found nothing and concluded it was a false alarm with good intent.”
