A WESTON angler received an award from the RNLI for helping to raise money for the charity.

Don Metcalfe, who is president of the Bristol Channel Federation of Sea Anglers, received the testimonial of thanks from Weston RNLI president Dr George Papworth.

The Weston Sea Anglers Association has helped to raise around £25,000 for the life-saving charity.

Mr Metcalfe first got involved with the RNLI in the 1950s when he was fishing from Birnbeck Pier.

The anglers began to raise money for the RNLI and Mr Metcalfe arranged competitions, with proceeds going to the charity.
