THE Weston coastguard was called out last night after a boat drifted near to rocks at the mouth of the River Axe.

Swansea Coastguard picked up a mayday signal from the vessel “Game On” yesterday evening, and the two RNLI craft based at the Birnbeck Island station attended the scene.

A third vessel, the “Swampy”, got to the stranded vessel first, and stayed with it until the coastguards arrived. The vessel, with its two crewmembers, was then towed back up the River Axe to safety.
