Weston-super-Mare RNLI has said it hopes to reveal the location for its new lifeboat station soon, as it has received another significant donation for its appeal.

The RNLI left Birnbeck Pier in 2013, and has been operating out of a temporary station by Marine Lake ever since.

There have been numerous delays as the RNLI has struggled to find a suitable site for a new station.

But fundraising has continued, and the Tesco Retired Colleagues Community group chose Weston RNLI as its charity of the year.

Members went on trips and played skittles to raise £1,263.

Peter Elmont, chairman of the Weston RNLI fundraising branch, said: “We are extremely grateful for this donation.

“We hope our new station site will be revealed in the not too distant future so we need to keep collecting as much as possible towards it.

“Thanks to the Tesco retirees for their magnificent contribution.”
