RNLI lifeguards Scott Temple and Luke Penman were alerted about the dolphin at around midday, keeping the animal afloat and breathing until assistance arrived.

The lifeguards tended to the stranded dolphin before coastguard and Burnham Area Rescue Boat (BARB) crews arrived and took over caring for the animal.

The rescue comes after a similar creature was found dead on a beach in Weston-super-Mare in the past week.
